- Windows Update/Restart & Open files not saved
- Posted by SusanJ on April 10th, 2008
I was working in an Excel file and left my computer for 10 minutes & when I
came back it had restarted due to Windows updates. Now all the work I did is
gone. Is there anyplace that file might have been saved before the restart?
Thanks for any assistance.

You're asking about an Excel file and Windows updates in a media center
newsgroup. It's no wonder you have problems. Do you also have some plumbing
questions you would like to ask in microsoft.public.windows.mediacenter? Or
how about a question or 2 on cooking?

In the future, a question about Excel would be betters posted in an
appropriate forum.
If you are running the autosave feature, then yes it would have been saved
and will appear as an autosave the next time you open Excel. For further
info on possible recovery, repost in an Excel newsgroup
Normally the Windows Updates don't automatically restart Windows without
your permission.
