Wirless connection problems for Xbox 360
Posted by Joey Overby on February 17th, 2006

I managed to get my Xbox 360 and my computer running Media Center to connect.
BUT only when I used a wired connection from my computer to my router. (I'm
using a microsoft wireless router, and a microsoft wireless USB device to
connect).

But now that I'm connected to my wireless network through the USB device,
the xbox 360 can't find the PC.

Thanks for your help.

And if you need more info to isolate the problem please let me know.

Is the USB wireless adapter plugged into your PC or the Xbox 360? Either
way, what are the IP addresses of the PC and Xbox 360? Also, what
make/model wireless router do you have?

Are you using the MN500 or MN700? Which USB adapter? The MN500
(802.11b only) is too slow to support the connection over wireless.

I am using the MN700 Router, and the MN-510 Wireless USB router on my
computer. On my 360, I'm using the Microsoft router that you can buy for
that also.

The ip address of my computer is: 169.254.2.2, and of the 360 is:
192.168.2.136.

1. the MN510 is 802.11b and is too slow and not supported for
networking MCE+Xbox 360, and the 510 is not a router, it is an
adapter. The computer is not receiving an IP from the MN 700. Can you
hardwire it to the MN700 using Ethernet cable? If you can't do that,
you will need to buy an 802.11g adapter for it.

2. see

for explanations

Ms. Bowman,
If I got a faster adapter would I be able to do it? I'm unfortunately
not able to connect my computer to the router directly. Will any brand of
802.11g work?

And thank you very much

any standards based 802.11g should work. don't use any speedboost
software that may come with some adapters.

Your MCE computer is not getting an ip from the router, as a result, it is
on a completely different network than the xbox 360.
