WRM Content Not playing in New Media Centre PC
Posted by Anaxis on February 3rd, 2006

I have a fairly new copy of MCE 2002 with the upgrade rollup to 2005, no
problems during installation and no missing devices in hardware manager, but
for some reason the recent content i have from Bonfire/Puretracks will not
play on any form of Media Player. Currently running Media Player 10 with all
available windows update patches and have the windows media 9 codecs
installed as well. (these files play fine on a second pc running windows xp
pro with no extra codecs installed that i am aware of) The error recieved is
the one below...
----------------------
You've encountered error message C00D10D1 while using Windows Media Player.
The following information might help you troubleshoot the issue.

Codec is missing
Windows Media Player cannot play the file (or cannot play either the audio
or video portion of the file) because the 161 codec is not installed on your
computer.

The missing codec might be available to download from the Internet. To
search for the 161 codec, go to the WMPlugins.com Web site.
-----------------------------------------

After installing the suggested files from the WMPlugins site the same error
repeats, including after reboot. Any suggestions would be appreciated as I
would prefer not to have to steam media from two independent PC's through my
360 as it appears to not allow for simultaneous awareness of more then one pc
on the network, not to mention the media centre version is the obvious choice
based on its connections to my home av setup etc.

Do a search within the message boards for "161 Codec in WMP10?" There are
many posts about this issue.
