- XP user Lockout
- Posted by Steve L. on March 14th, 2006
I have a small problem, I am running XP w/ sp2, and tried to install a new
printer on the system. When I started the system and went to log on to my
user account, the computer reboots. The hard drive will not allow any log on
into windows. I have scanned the hadr drive with AVG in another conmputer as
a slave with no problems. And went to reinstall in computer and now will not
boot at all, shows no operating system found. Tried to reinstall XP with a
repair, and come up with "INF FILE TXTSETUP.SIF IS CORRUPTED OR MISSING -
STATUS 21"
So, I reinstalled as a slave and can see all files and folders except the
user I was using when system crashed. when trying to explore that user
folder, system says," access denied, write protected" I would like to know
how to open this folder as a slave and extrect the files so I can format the
drive. any help or ideas??????

Try it again when you are in logged as the Admin.
or
Try in Safe Mode.
or maybe you got a virus that hacked in to the account and removed some data
so it dont work properly.

It could also be that the user account that you were using is encrypted and
you cannot access it form another operating system. Some of the user accounts
in XP can be encrypted. It sounds like this is the case if you cannot see the
user's files after logging in as admin.
