- Cannot install Windows Installer 2.0
- Posted by lthib on November 20th, 2003
I have been attempting to get Windows Installer 2.0 installed on a WinNT Server SP6a system. I need to do this because I have software to install that depend on Win Installer 2.0. I downloaded the 2.0 installer from the microsoft site. When I run Instmisw.exe, I receive a dialog with "An unexpected error occurred". I have extracted the files to a directory and attempted run it as "msiinst.exe /i instmsi.msi /l*v msi.log /qb+" as instructed by certain KB articles. That produces the same message and no log. I have not be able to find anything in relation to this problem. I have checked permissions as suggested and they are set correctly. I have been able to install Windows Installer 1.1 and 1.2, but not 2.0. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Did you review if your download file is for NT? There is a version for Win
NT in
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...1-6F8A0F5DCA8F
but you should delete all files which are in TEMP directory and rebbot the
machine before install this application.
Good luck,

Patty,
I have the version for Win2000/NT. I have cleared the temp directory and rebooted multiple times. I will make one more attempt to rename the existing files, boot fresh, and try the install again. After that I may have to call MS for support. Not finding any clues in any of the MS KB articles. I find nothing with the message I am receiving.
