I am having trouble getting my one NT4 member server to authenticate with
the domain. All applications using domain user accounts seem to be unable
to function. Event log's first sign of trouble was this:

No Windows NT Domain Controller is available for domain OURDOMAIN. (This
event is expected and can be ignored when booting with the 'No Net' Hardware
Profile.) The following error occurred: There are currently no logon servers

15 hours later, this entry begins, and continues to today:

Type: error
Cat: none

Failed to authenticate with \\OURDOMAINCONTROLLER, a Windows NT domain

Does your NT server have the right DNS setting, i.e. the 2000 DC?

Yes, it is fine.

I was able to successfully run the netdom tool. The message says that
secure channel and password were reset and computer successfully added to
domain, then to restart. Same problem. Do I need to restart the w2k domain
controller, too?

I can successfully map a drive to the domain controller with a domain user
account from this nt4 box...but no one can connect to this nt4 box with
domain user accounts still.

I think this worked...what I had failed to do apparently is restart the
domain controller...it would be nice if that were indicated somewhere.
