- HDD has bad block (really ?)

One of our NT workstation PCs has been logging "\Harddisk1\Partition1 has a
bad block". This happened twice over a period of two months, then more often
(once every two weeks). I just ran the HD manufacturer's (Quantum)
diagnostic program, including three 'burn-in' tests, and the disk is
reported to be A-OK !
Any ideas ?

The hard drive might not physically have a bad block
but there is an issue between the ability of the OS to
read the HD. I would make an image file of the HD, re-
format it and then reload the image file. And, also,
start doing regular backups, which is good practice in
any event.

Windows NT is a very precise operating system in
itself and may be less forgiving than the tolerances
that are acceptable by Quantum. It is not usually a
good sign, in any event, when the frequency of the
error increases. Accept the premise that hard drives
do fail, some earlier than others, and be prepared by
having adequate backups of all the work that has been
done and stored.
