While consolidating files from old computers and hard drives, I accidentally
deleted many pictures that are very important to me on a system running
Windows NT 4.0 workstation with sp5. I caught that these files were being
deleted during the process and canceled the deletion. Other files that I had
deleted were in the Recycle Bin, but none of these appeared. I have not yet
rebooted the system.

Please help with ideas.

did you check All of the "Recycle Bins"
(on mine with c: and d: partions there
is one for each partition)
