Didn't you answer your own question? Why can't you use xcopy?
Also, keep in mind that Windows Explorer has been dreadfully inaccurate
in these estimated file copying time estimates since NT4, so you really
needn't pay too much mind to the time left estimates.
Finally, if you can try to do the copy from one the machines you are
either copying from or to (as opposed to a 3rd machine).
