Can anyone tell me a way to get into an NT 4 box that the
administrator password was forgotten?

Hi Sam,
there is no simple way to retreive a lost password on an NT system. There are
3rd party tools that claim to be able to, but nothing (that I'm aware of)
available as freeware - somebody please correct this statement if it is wrong!
To get you back into your system, the approach normally taken is to reset the
admin password to a known state - this tool:
http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/ - Offline NT Password and Registry
Editor by Petter Nordahl-Hagen
will allow you to acheive this. Once it is back to a known value, you can log in
again normally.

Or you can use Locksmith by Winternals. This also part of their Admin Pak
disk. Very easy to use.

disk. Yes, a Linux boot disk. Search the web or email me
and i will send you to bood disk files. When you boot up
the NT4.0 machine to the Linux boot disk, you must answer
a couple of questions then i twill get to a part where it
will give you the option to re-set the password. You tell
it which one you want to reset (administrator) and it will
re-set it. Once re-set reboot the machine without the
disk and log in with new password.
