I'm running my file server on an NT 4.0 box and I have a very large 512 MB
pagefile.sys file. What does this file do, and is there any way to reduce or
delete it?

That is your swap file, or virtual memory. It is usually 2 x the physical
RAM you have. To change- right click My Computer / properties / performance
This can be put on a different drive, too.
