Reconnecting to mapped drive...
Posted by Rob Outman on October 7th, 2004

Hi all...

I have a problem when browsing for a file within a specific program. I am
not sure if this
is windows related or not as this problem only occurs in this one program.
No other
applications give this error. When selecting a mapped drive letter through
the file open dialog (or any file selection dialog within this program)

I get an error stating:

"An error has occurred while reconnecting H: to \\Server01\General
MS Windows Network: The local device name is already in use. This
connection has not been restored."

The above error pops up 4 times and goes away after the 4th "OK". After a
few seconds the mapped drive appears to "refresh" and the message comes back
four more times. This continues until I have closed the file open dialog.

The drive is still connected and I am able to browse to files with no
problem, but it is very annoying to have this pop up over and over. This
problem does not occur with any other mapped drive on the same server.

If I disconnect the drive and map the same directory to a different drive
letter, the
problem does not occur. Unfortunately I need to have it connected as H:\
There are no other drives mapped as H:\ on my local workstation.

Workstation is Windows 2000 PE, server is Windows NT 4.0

Any ideas?

TIA!

Rob
