I have a two rack-mounted Dell PowerEdge servers. They
are identical except that one has two processors and one
has four. The four processor server is the only live
server on the domain and so therefore is the PDC.
I want to use the second server as backup in case the
first fails however because of the Oracle database I run
on the PDC it is necessary for the backup server to have
the same name.
Today I simulated a disaster recovery situation;
installed NT Server and Veritas Backup Exec from CD on my
backup server, and run a full system recovery from tapes
created on my PDC.
The backup server now runs as the original server except
that the RPC service hangs and then enters a "start-
pending" state. As a result many others services fail to
start as they depend upon the RPC service.
If anybody could suggest why this should be happening I
would gratefully appreciate any advise.
Thanks
David
