- Upgrading server hardware
- Posted by nutso fasst on May 13th, 2004
Hello.
I'm planning to upgrade a server that's running IIS, SQL, DNS, mail, etc.,
and firewall and NAT servicing 2 NICs.
HDD and MB are being replaced, which includes video and at least one NIC
(new MB has on-board video and NIC). Current MB is VIA chipset AMD K6-2,
replacement is SIS chipset Duron.
The new system is in a new case. My plan is to set the systems side-by-side,
connect the old drive to the new system and clone it using Copy Commander,
detach the old drive, move one of the old NICs into the new system, then
boot and hope for the best.
Is there a better way?
I did a HDD/MB (486 to K6) upgrade a few years ago by mirroring the HDD.
Copy Commander seems a simpler alternative.
Thanks,
nf
