- Posted by Roland Wolters on December 11th, 2004
Hi,
Our Windows 2003 std server keep freezing after heavy filesystem use. In
this cae, a webcam write an image every 15 secs. If this goes on for about
a week, the server freezes. I this a known issue?
Greetings,
Roland

I have the same problem when I try to copy large amounts of data over the
network. The machine just freezes at random times with no errors writtten in
the event log.
The same behavior is excibited with either straight copy using Explorer or
the command prompt or via the backup utility. Also when this happens the NIIC
handling the traffic floods the network and disrupts all TCP traffic on the
subnet.
The server uses 2 Broadcom Giga NICs connected to 2 Giga switches. They
(NICs) both have TCP problems. The other will lose connection to the ISP DNS
at random intervals and I need to disable/enable the connection through
Network Connections in order to start functioning again. The server is a mail
server and this behavior is very annoying since it cannot send mail and
cannot backup its mailboxes over the network.
I read in many newsgroups of other people having similar problems to us but
nobody gives an answer. I have other servers copying large amounts of data
over the same network every night with no problems. Of course they are NT4
SP6a and W2k SP4. The old server this one replaced performed the same
functions flawlessly using NT4 SP6a. The mail application is Lotus Domino
6.5.3
I think Microsoft should address this issue.
Thanks

Known issue with Boradcom Broadcom. Disable teaming (if present). Secondly
disable checksum offloading and third set Jumbo MTU size to something
reasonable, like 1500.
