- 2003R2 licensing question - simultaneous connections
- Posted by Darius.Jedberg@gmail.com on July 21st, 2006
Hi, is anyone able to clarify this for me:
[I've searched already, but what I've read suggests things have changed
recently with R2].
QUESTION:
If Windows 2003 R2 (Standard) is running in "Per Device or Per User"
mode, and then one user attempts to connect simultaneously using two
machines (say btheir laptop AND desktop), how many CALs are needed?
[What I've read suggests that prior to R2 it would only be 1 CAL, but
that R2 requires a CAL per connection regardless of the model (i.e. per
connected device regardless of the number of connected users),
therefore it is 2?]
Many thanks in advance for any clarificaion.

It would be one for Per User
It would be two for Per Device

As with all things Microsoft, always check with your local Microsoft
office/reseller to verify.
