- Bios time correct, but system clock keeps gaining
- Posted by kgslego on July 25th, 2005
We are running Windows Server 2000 w/ SP4. The primary domain controler
is having a time issue.
For the past two weeks the system clock has been gaining time, even
though the bios clock is correct when we reboot the server. This past
weekend it gained 20 minutes. I have disabled Windows Time from the
Services Manager, but the clock still keeps gaining time. We have 5
other servers (2 are domain controlers) and they are doing fine,
Windows Time is disabled on them also.
Does anyone have a suggestion??

I had this problem under XP once because I did not reboot after applying
updates.
Another thing you can try is setting up network synchronization of the time.

w32tm /resync comes back with an options list.
If I run w32tm -s, I get RPC to local server returned 0x6b5.
Is this what you were looking for?

To anyone who is interested, the problem was a $0.90 battery. The
system is just over a year and a half old, but a dead battery on the
motherboard was creating all kinds of problems.
