Cannot browse child domains from forest root
Posted by Al on July 23rd, 2007

Hi there,

a.com cannot browse b.a.com from Network Neighborhood. When I look at users
and computers, everything is there. Also from child, I cannot browse the top
level either.

Any guidance and thoughts on this?

Thank you!

Hi Al,

Remember that browsing through Network Neighborhood is dependent on NetBIOS
and will populate its list from WINS or the Master Browser. Make sure you
are setting your node type to h-node (0x8) in DHCP and have WINS configured
correctly.

Hi Ryan,

Thank you for your reply. We don't have a WINS server setup any where. I
guess that means the master browser will have to take care of that. Now my
question is, h-node in DHCP, how should this be setup? What you're saying is
for a.com and b.a.com I have to define these? Can you be more spesific?

Thank you

Al K.

Al,

If you want Network Neighborhood to work across subnets, you need to have
WINS servers in each domain that are aware of each other.

Node type is set under the DNS settings.
