We have a Win 2K Server SP2.
The server has IIS running and the printers can be
referenced via http://servername/printers
I need to add drivers for NT systems, allow the NT users
to access the printers via http, click on connect and add
the printer to their desktop. The printer make and model . HP 2430N
THE PROBLEM I HAVE IS:
I goto the Printer Control Panel, select Server
Properties, then select Drivers, select ADD.
I then select the printer to add, ex: HP, HP Laserjet
5000 PS
I then choose Intel, Windows NT 4.0 or 2000 (Windows
2000 is already selected and installed)
When I click next, it asks for the CD with the driver.
I insert the Windows 2000 Server w/ SP2 CD in the drive
and browse to \printers\nt4\i386
The system browses, acts like it will load and then
fails. Claims the driver is not compatible, etc.
The only way I have gotten this setup to work is to install the
printer to the windows NT client machine via the LPT1. then use the
NET USE LPT1: //server/printername
Since the printer is already working for the windows 2000 clients, it
is already shared and visible on the network. By adding it manually
via the Lpt1 port to the nt clients, it works. Of course, during the
initial install , it asks for the printers drivers and I point them to
the same drivers I have been trying to add to the server. It works.
Theres got to be an easier way to add the printer driver via the print
server in windows 2000. However, for whatever reason it complains that
it is not compatible. I have downloaded the latest printer drivers.
Has anyone here come across an issue like this? please advise.
