- Can't login to server...
- Posted by Steven on September 30th, 2004
I've had my WinSvr2K3 up and running for a couple of
months now, but this morning I'm unable to login to it.
After every attempt, it prompts me with the "must
activate or you can't login" even though I've already
activated and registered it. When I click ok to activate,
the "already activated" window pops up with an ok button.
When I click the ok button, I am returned to the ctrl-alt-
del login prompt.
Any ideas?
Thanx.

Hi Steven,
Can you try and reboot the server?

Hello...
Anybody home...

Steven,
I am not sure what else to suggest. I have seen this problem at one of my
clients and we usually solved this by rebooting the server.
Is your server part of domain? Can you check the event logs (you should be
able to connect to the server using MMC console and manage computer from
another PC)...

I checked the event log from another server and until I
attempt to log in, all is well, not one single error.
However, when I attempt to log in as administrator, I get
the following entry in the event log:
----------
Date: 09/30/2004 Source: Windows Product Activation
Time: 11:05:45 AM Category: None
Type: Error Event ID: 1009
User: N/A
Computer: {computername}
Description:
You have not activated Windows within the grace period.
To activate Windows, contact a customer service
representative by telephone.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
----------
And, remember, the machine is stating that Windows has
already been registered.
Any ideas at all?
I'm at a complete stand-still. It appears the only way
around this is to wipe and reinstall.
Thanx.

Can you check your system date (go into BIOS and check)?
Other then this, I really don't have any more ideas... Still personally (if
it was my system), I would want this problem solved (or at least know why it
happens). What about next time on a clean install (after few months)?
