Changing from Enterprise Edition to Web Edition?
Posted by David B on April 12th, 2005

Hello Everyone -

I recently took on a position as a network administrator at a small
business. The previous administrator tried to kill a mosquito with a rocket.

We have a server running Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition. This server
is only used as a web server. It would make sense to me to "downgrade" from
Enterprise Edition to Web Edition - as the Enterprise Edition license could
be used much more effectively somewhere else.

Has anyone had experience with this before? Is a complete reinstall
necessary? Will it be necessary to completely reconfigure Sharepoint and IIS?

Thanks!
David

One cannot "downgrade" a server operating system.
A "clean install" of the new server O/S is required.
