- critical update from Windows Update continuously wants to update
- Posted by Daniel on July 7th, 2006
I've installed the same critical update 5 times, and Windows update still
wants to update my server with the same update. It's "Critical Update for
SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (Windows) on Windows Server 2003 (KB829358)".
The history on the Windows Update website says that each attempt was
successful. However, the Add and Remove Programs window does not have the
update listed.
Does anyone know what causes this? More importantly, what is the solution?

Have you run the monitoring wizard? This seems to be the trick that
makes that patch finally install...this also tells me you don't have SBS
2003 sp1 installed... you should do that as well.

Daniel
it's a "Undocumented Feature"
You have to Manual Install that update sometimes (I've had to do it on about
4 servers I think)
Here are the Instructions.
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=829358
And Here is where to download it from.

Run and install it and you should be good to go...

I didn't know that Monitoring wizard thing fixed it,
but it does sound like your server needs patches
(Since I don't remember seeing this error for 9months or so)
Please make sure you are update on SP1 and Exchange SP2
