- Deploying Windows 2003 Server - Service Pack 1
- Posted by lforbes on February 3rd, 2006
Hi,
I have been very gun-shy about deploying Service Pack 1 for Windows 2003
server.
I am running all Dell Servers. Two are older PowerEdge 2400's and two are
newer SC 1600's
I was wondering if there are anything things to worry about or look out for?
I have just heard some horror stories and don't have the time to rebuild a DC
if it fails because of the SP.
Can I upgrade 1 DC at a time over a period of time or does SP1 not interact
well with the non-SP1 DC's? I have some non-DC's also like Webservers etc
that I could try out the SP1 on however, I am not sure if I can mix.
Thanks

Hello Lara,
Ive installed SP1 to 6 Win2k3 servers in one day. Nothing went wrong.
Take your time.
Just dont disable any hardware like network cards (if u dont want users to
access the server you are installing)
Always let the full file run with default next next next finish! :-)

I upgraded 100 dell machines to Windows 2003 sp1. The only thing Dell
recommends was making sure the firmware was up-to-date for BIOS, BMC/EMC
firmware and PERC cards. I had no issues running one DC with SP1 and
others with RTM. SP1 fixed a bunch of DNS issues I was having.

Hi,
Thanks Fred. I will do full backup before hand just to make sure. Have great
UPS in case of blackout.
Cheers,
Lara
