Posted by fshguo on April 22nd, 2005

Hi...got a few retired Compaq proliant 1600, just wondering they
support Windows 2003 server. If it does, do I have to use Smart Start
CD to install Windows 2003? any alternative if I can't find the CD?

Thanks,
Fshguo.

The PL1600 is not supported for Windows Server 2003. Here is the lin
from HP showing the support matrix
http://h10018.www1.hp.com/wwsolution...ws/archive.htm

The initial problem is the lack of drivers for the embedded etherne
port. Other than that, you should be able to install the OS. You wil
need to use the SmartStart 5.5 CD, then select Windows 2000 as your O
choice. Don't expect to get any support on this configuration from HP
If you go the HP site, start under Driver Downloads, then ente
proliant 1600 as the search item. You can then go the the Window
2000 OS page, and download the Compaq System Configuration utility
the Array Configuration utility, and any number of other updates. Yo
can use these to boot from floppy disks to configure the hardware an
build the F10 partition, then you can proceed to loading the OS
