- Domain rename- netlogon
- Posted by Glacit on November 13th, 2005
Hello,
We did a domain rename, everything appears to work fine so far.
After 3 months I removed the old active directory zones for the old domain,
now netlogon failures exist.
When I do a netdiag /test:dns /fix it tries to fix the old dns zone in dns
by reregistering the following:
_ldap._tcp.olddomain
_ldap._tcp.Default-First-Site-Name._sites.olddomain
_ldap._tcp.pdc._msdcs.olddomain
_ldap._tcp.gc.olddomain
_ldap._tcp.Default-First-Site-Name._sites.gc._msdcs.olddomain
_ldap._tcp.a373d251-c2f8-4476-98f2-2094154beb67.domains._msdcs.olddomain
gc._msdcs.olddomain
any ideas how to fix this? I figure that will have some difficulty since the
old zones was active directory enabled.

You did not complete the rename process. Read the domain rename guide
thoroughly. Read up to and including the last page. Many people make the
error not finishing the domain rename 100% because they think they are
finished when the guide talks about specific scenarios to take care of.
There's more afterwards. Re-run rendom /clean from the control station, in
verbose mode, followed by rendom /end, to be sure ended the domain rename
procedure properly and to clean up these lingering DnsRootAlias names.

Todd,
I really think all the commands were executed, but I can't be sure now.
The control station may not be available anymore. What are my options for
removal?
Thanks

You can stand up a new control station for that. Re-run rendom /clean from
the control station, in verbose mode, followed by rendom /end, to be sure
ended the domain rename procedure properly and to clean up these lingering
DnsRootAlias names.

Beautiful...that was it. Netdiag is error free. Netlogon.dns file no longer
has old domain entries.
