Error Starting a Service
Posted by Bryan Coley on June 7th, 2004

I have a Windows Server 2k3, it is acting as the following: Domain
Controller, Terminal Server, Remote Server, DHCP Server, DNS Server, Wins
Server and File Server.

I have installed a program called Navision Attain and am unable to start the
service on the server. I currently have the whole 'Navision Server' running
off my XP box as I am unable to use it on the server.

I used to have Navision running on my server, but after I rebuilt it, I am
unable to get it working again. I had a problem installing the program due
to terminal server running on the server. Once I removed the Terminal Server
Role, I was able to install it, but then I get stuck. When I tried to
install the software whilst Terminal Server was running, it would get to
about 95% and then roll back the installation, corrupting all my *.mmc
files, I was thus unable to access the Event Viewer and other items.

When I try to start the service I get the following error message -

'Could not start the Navision Attain Database Server ELMAIN service on Local
Computer. Error 1: Incorrect function.'

I am running the exact same program on my pc and all is well. I have looked
at the path that the service is referring to and it is identical to my pc.

I have tried the people who wrote the software, and they are of no help.
They say that it is a Windows bug on my side. I have loaded all the service
packs etc, so there is nothing missing.

Does anyone have any suggestions why this would not be working, any help
would be much appreciated.
