- Failed installation of outlook 2003 and fax services for client computers
- Posted by Stuart Cox on July 30th, 2004
Hello all,
I was doing so well until an hour or so ago. I have setup SBS2003 on our new
server and have just started to setup the client computers. I have created
my users under SBS and have added the client computer to the domain. I have
asked SBS to install Outlook 2003 on client computers when they log on.
When I go to the client computer and logon, it knows it has to install the
software and proceeds to do so BUT it doesn't get very far. after a few
minutes it simply says it cannot install Outlook 2003 and proceeds to
install the shared Fax service (which also fails).
I am pretty new to SBS and have read books about installation. I have tried
to stick with the "deafault" simple installation of everything.
Any ideas where I should look?
Thanks, Stuart
PS It occurs to me that I have never had to enter the license code for
Outlook anywhere, could this be part of the problem?

Do the users have Admin rights on the PC's as that is a
common problem, as you need local admin rights to install
Outlook 2003. If you have entered the key for SBS2003, I
believe that is enough, as I have never entered an
Outlook key during installation before.

Thanks for the help,
yes I in fact gave EVERYONE admin rights in a desparate bid to sort it out.
It actually turns out to be a corrupted "Windows Installer" on the client
machine! So....
Anyone know how to FIX windows installer?
Thanks again
Stuart
