How to quickly determine service, etc... that depend on the administrator user account...
Posted by AMeador on June 14th, 2007

I have a situation that is causing me to need to change the
password on my customers SBS 2003 Premium system. This is still
running Windows 2003 Server, so this newgroup still applies. I have
multiple items running on this system, SQL Server 2000, MSDE 2000, ISA
Server 2004, WSUS, McAfee Active Virus Defense, etc... I am looking
for a way to find any service, or other items I may not even be
thinking about, that will break if I just change the administrator
password. There has recently been a lot of down time due to extended
power outage so the customer would not appreciate more, but in the
process of dealing with trying to get some issues straitened out on
the server during this downtime, one of their users I had to work with
was given the administrators password and is now causing problems. I
need to get this person out of the look asap, but with as little
problems as possible associated with this process. So I am really
looking for a way to get a list of services (and any others I'm not
thinking of off hand) quickly so I can fix them asap after the
password change.

Thanks In advance!

Andrew

Go to Start > Administrative tools > Services and check through the 'Log On
As' values.
