Licensing question for 2K3 Server
Posted by Corren on December 9th, 2004

Hi, I have a windows 2k3 server with 10 CALs, I just bought a second server
to function as a web server (2k3 standard) with 5 CALs. Can I use those 5
CALs (or some number of them) on my domain controller (the server with 10
previously) and join the new server to my domain?

Joining the new server to your domain and the utilization of the licenses
are two separate matters. You can join the server to your domain. I assume
that you are using Per Server licensing currently. Have you considered
switching to Per Seat licensing?

Actually, I believe it's setup as Per Seat.
