Looking for a server software to do the following
Posted by DrSeussFreak on April 1st, 2008

My company is looking for a server software that can do the following

1) List server host name, location in rack, hardware information,
service contract information, support contact info
2) Application name, application vendor, application vendor contact
information
3) Customer department, customer contact information
3) Servers that are linked in some way if something happens to that
server (or one of the other linked servers).

Any ideas?

Hello DrSeussFreak,

Will not exist on this way, how should the software locate the server in
the rack? You can use Microsoft Visio for example to create overviews with
a lot of stencils and information to built your environment in a graphical
way.

Best regards

Lets say we skip the step about rack location, is there 1 software
that can do the rest?

You're talking about Configuration Management, and there are systems around
that will provide what you ask, such as IBM Tivoli. Google Configuration
Management or ITIL and you'll probably find what you're looking for.
