- Mapped Drive Disk Space Issue
- Posted by David J.Parkes on February 25th, 2005
One of the users that i support is connecting to a Windows 2003 SBS Server.
The Mapped Drives that are connected when the user logs on are only reporting
to be 1GB in size when they should be atleast 200GB, and now it is saying
that there is not enough space. There is no disk quota from what i can tell
set up.
Could anyone please help me with this issues?

Sounds strange. Could you run this little test and include the
screen output in your reply?
1. On the workstation:
- Start a Command Prompt
- Type these commands:
md \\YourServer\YourShare\TestFolder
dir \\YourServer\YourShare\Test*.*
2. On your server:
- Start a Command Prompt
- Type this command:
dir \\YourServer\YourShare\Test*.*

The Workstation Response was:
\\%Servername%\Data\USTATION\TEST001
0 File<s> 0 bytes
2 Dir<S> 503.808 bytes free
The Server Response was:
\\%Servername%\DATA\USTATION\TEST001
0 File<s> 0 Bytes
2 Dir<s> 211,841,740,800 bytes free
This is highley spooky. Any thoughts?

Things don't quite add up, probably because you reported only
a fraction of what you saw on the screen. Here is what I expected
to see:
c:\>dir \\fnlhome\c$\test*.*
Volume in drive \\fnlhome\c$ is System
Volume Serial Number is 40F3-FD45
Directory of \\fnlhome\c$
26/02/2005 00:38 <DIR> Test
0 File(s) 0 bytes
1 Dir(s) 2,089,652,224 bytes free
In other words, I'd like a screen shot with literally ***everything***!
In case you're not aware of the method to take a screen shot of a
Command Prompt, here it is:
- Press Alt+SpaceBar
- Press E (Edit)
- Press K (Mark)
- Using your cursor keys, select the screen area you wish to copy
- Press Enter
- Return to your news group editor
- Click Edit/Paste
What is the operating system of the problem machine? Have you
considered that its network installation could be corrupted?

Sure looks like a disk quota to me.
If you logon the same machine as the user and look at the share is i
how you expect or what the user gets?
If you see the full amount of disk space either there is a disk quot
or this user account is corrupt somehow.
If you see the same logged in as the user I would have the user logon
different station. Could be station specific

Just thought i would update you all on how i resolved this issue. If you
right click on the Drive that has the Folders which you use for mapped
drives, then go to properties and then quotas i found that there were non
set. However if you click on the Quota Entries button you will see a long
list of users. In here it said that some of the users were only were allowed
to use approx 1GB on that drive. I decided to multiselect the users and then
right click and select properties. you then need to set it so that there is
no limit. Hope this helps those with similair problems.
