- More than 3 remote desktop connections
- Posted by Joe Mills on September 14th, 2006
Hi,
I have a single stand alone server and need to configure it so that up to 10
people can access it at the same time using their Remote Desktop client. I
know that the remote desktop administration only allows 2 standard and 1
console session at any 1 time but is there a way to extend this?
thanks -J

So I don't need to install Terminal Server then?

Yes, you need TS even for one single RD user.

Ok so... when I go to the Terminal Services Configuration, I see the
licencing mode is set to "Remote Desktop for Administration" (which says
'this policy provides 2 concurrent connections'). So..... I can't change
anything here, I will need to install Terminal Server (not Terminal Services
as this is already installed) to increase this 2 connection limit?

Hi Joe,
I guess you are running Windows 2003 server. By default 2 remote
desktop connections can be made to it by enabling Remote Desktop from
System properties. In case you require more than 2 connections you
will have to install a Terminal Server Licensing server. Also, you
will have to install Terminal Services on your Windows 2003 server.
This can be done through Control Panel --> Add/Remove Programs -->
Windows Components.
