"<No Instances>" for LogicalDisk counters on Windows 2000 server
Posted by AI on March 21st, 2005

I'm trying to set up an alert for low disk space on a Windows 2000 server,
but when I select the LogicalDisk performance object, the "All instances" and
"Select instances from list" radio buttons are grayed out, and the list of
instances displays only "<No Instances>". The server has C: and D:
partitions. LogicalDisk counters have been enabled with diskperf, and the
server has been rebooted. Running diskperf confirms that "Both Logical and
Physical Disk Performance counters on this system are currently set to start
at boot." The disk has not been converted to a dynamic disk. I have not
seen any problems with any other performance objects on this server, and the
hardware is identical to other servers that don't have this problem (HP
ProLiant DL380 with a SCSI RAID 5 array). What could be causing this?
