- NT Backup of System State Generates Event ID: 1524
- Posted by westernwind on July 27th, 2005
This post is intended for the manged news group monitors to resolve.
I have three Windows 2003 SP1 Servers. I run NT Backup each night on all
three of them to backup the 'System State' to a file that I overwrite. On
all three servers the NT Backup begins and then generates the following:
Warning Event ID 1524: "Windows cannot unload your classes registry file -
it is still in use by other applications or services. The file will be
unloaded when it is no longer in use."
This is followed by the Information Event ID 1516: "Windows unloaded user
S-1-5-21-8260550-1750026966-1151357142-3524_Classes registry when it received
a notification that no other applications or services were using the profile."
Can you tell me if this is the 'Expected' behaviior, or is there a
configuration change that I can make to resolve this?

Thanks in advance

Hi Westernwind,
Based on my research, both Event ID 1524 and 1516 has indicated that the
system cannot fully release the resource when certain user logoff. We
cannot determine if the issue is related to NTbackup or not. Please use the
following suggestions to isolate this issue:
Step 1.
========
On the problematic machine, refer to the following article to article to
download UPHClean to see if the issue persists.

there is a third-party link addressed Event ID 1524:

Step2:
=========
Although the following link has addressed Event 1517, I suggest you take a
look at the link to check the option in NTbackup mentioned in the link
below:

Step 3:
==========
If possible, please create three backup job on another server by using the
same steps to backup the job. Do you observe the same issue?
If the issue persists, please download the MPS report tool from the
following link and send the result (CAB) file to me. This log file can help
me clarify the computer configuration.

1. Double click this file to run it.
2. After that, please go to C:\windows\MPSReports\Setup\Reports\Cab .
3. Find a file named [COMPUTERNAME]_MPSReports.CAB
4. Send this cab file to me at v-rebc@microsoft.com

Rebecca Chen,
Thanks for your reply with suggested solutions. I am sorry it has taken me
so long to get back in touch.
I have installed the UPHClean and it has resolved the issue on my test
Server 2003. I will try it on my other servers soon. If I have any more
issues with my production servers after applying the UPHClean I will let you
know.

Thanks in advance
