Ntbackup/Differential Backup
Posted by Shawn Sears on July 21st, 2004

We are trying to run a differential Backup using
NTbackup.exe. The differential backup is requiring
allocated media. Unfortunalty when the backup runs all
of the media in the pool gets allocated, and then the
backup doesn't run. I have tried with no success in
getting the rsm.exe script to allocate just one tape.

Help

Shawn

Jerold,

Thanks, but that is almost exactly what we are running
now. We were running a very similar script on Windows
2000 with great success. On Server 2003 it just doesn't
work. I'm sorry I should have specified it was windows
2003 before.

Thanks
Shawn

I've updated the JSI Inc. scripts for Windows 2003 and I use the "rsm
rename" (new to Win2k3) command to rename the tape just before using
ntbackup /um with the new tape name. My free script is NTBackupScript
at http://ntbackup.no-ip.com I hope this helps you out! The script
also sends tape change alerts and report logs via email!
