NTBACKUP Error with System State BackUp
Posted by Bertin Peeters on August 30th, 2004

Hi,

I'm trying to backup our Windows 2003 System State Object, but after a
backup I receive the following messages in my logfile :

Backup Status
Operation: Backup
Active backup destination: File
Media name: "SystemState1400.bkf created 30/08/2004 at 11:52"

Backup (via shadow copy) of "System State"
Backup set #1 on media #1
Backup description: "Set created 30/08/2004 at 11:52"
Media name: "SystemState1400.bkf created 30/08/2004 at 11:52"

Backup Type: Copy

Backup started on 30/08/2004 at 11:53.

Error: Could not access portions of directory System State\COM+ Class
Registration Database.
You may not have permission to open the file, or the directory may be
missing or damaged.
Please contact the owner or administrator.

Error: Could not access portions of directory System State\Registry.
You may not have permission to open the file, or the directory may be
missing or damaged.
Please contact the owner or administrator.

Backup completed on 30/08/2004 at 11:56.
Directories: 202
Files: 2549
Bytes: 512.576.996
Time: 3 minutes and 48 seconds

----------------------

The first error (COM+ Class) can be resolved by loading the COM+ System
Application Service prior to BackUp, but I have not found a resolution
for the second error (Registry).

Is this a known error and if so, is there a solution for it or can it be
ignored if I need to restore the System State of this system ?

Thanks,
Bertin Peeters
