Printer driver needed
Posted by Gretchen Hembree on January 30th, 2007

We recently switched from a Windows 2000 Server to 2003 Server. I have a
Terminal Server user that has an HP 2170 all-in-one printer that we were able
to set up on Server 2000. I want to install it on 2003 Server so she can
print to it when logged in, however I am getting the feeling from my research
that is not possible. I understand that it is not a supported printer for
TS, but she will be very disappointed if I tell her it won't work and we
should consider another printer!

I contacted HP and he gave me the work around of this:
Disable the Antivirus and Firewall on the Computer to Install the Software
on Windows server 2003 Operating system and follow these steps:

1. Copy all the contents of the CD to the computer.
2. Locate autorun.inf file and open it in notepad.
3. Scroll down the notepad until you find "Overide" (sic) parameter under
"[SystemRequirements]" and change it from "No" to "Yes", then save.
*****OSList=410, 490, 500, 501 add 502 to this -> "OSList=410, 490, 500,
501,502"****************
4. Now run Setup.exe.

I did that, but when I went to run the Setup.exe file nothing ever came up.
I am happy to install the printer on my local users machine with a different
driver (With out the all-in-one bells and whistles) if I can also install
that driver on 2003 and get it to show up as a session printer. Does anyone
know if that would work?

BTW, my users machine is Windows 2000 and I believe the printer is connected
via USB, but I am currently not there in person to check.

Thanks! ~Gretchen
