RAID Question
Posted by Alan C on January 13th, 2007

We have a HP Server with two hot-swap disks on a raid1 array (mirror). One
of the disks is failing, and I've arranged a replacement.

My question is - Do I have to break the mirror, replace the bad drive and
re-mirror, or can I just swap the drive out and let the array firmware sort
it?

Can anyone give me a clue? Thanks.

The array controller should sort it. You can also enter controller bios at
POST (check the controller manual for instructions) and initiate the
rebuild. The rebuild would be faster in this case.
