- Retaining local profiles when migrating from NT4
- Posted by TonyV on March 16th, 2005
In a test setup, I migrated all user accounts from an old NT4 server to new
SBS2003 installed on new server hardware. Users are running XP Pro.
When a user logs into the SBS2003 server for the first time, a new local
profile is created.
How do I retain the user's current local profile?

Have you tried overwriting the new profile with the existing one?
If you open the documents and settings/%username% and copy/paste the
previous profile in the same location.

I did try that by logging in as local administrator & copying the old profile
over the new one, but when the user logs in again it created another new
profile: documents and settings/username.domain.000 (note the 000 at the end).
I did however solve this problem yesterday. I used ADMT to migrate all user
& computer accounts to the new server. After completing the migration steps,
users can now log on to the new domain and retain the old profiles. In my
previous attempt for migration, I made the mistake by only migrating user
accounts & not computer accounts as well.
