Hi,
Still working on my learning bench here, and progressing. I now have a
win2003 server machine as a DC, hosting the AD, with the DNS server
role. My XP clients log on almost lightning fast, and roaming profiles
work like they should.
To avoid the problem of long logon times when profiles grow bigger, I
decided to redirect the 4 folders (my docs, app data, ...) to another
share point on the server.
It works, and subfolders are created where they should for every user. I
notice now that I have been trying to configure this network like this
earlier, without success, and I did something very wrong. On my clients'
desktops, I get now new folders, which are the contents of the
"programs" folder from the start menu. And on each logon and logoff,
there is a synchronization window telling me the synch worked fine.
When I shut down the server and log on LOCALLY on one of the clients,
the synchronization process starts, the server is obviously not found,
and the synch fails. I don't understand why there is even an attempt to
synch folders when I log on locally, and what can I do to prevent those
folders from appearing on all desktops.
I am close to making a clean win2003 install to wipe all the mock ups I
have created during my learning stages, but since everything else works
so well, a quick fix would be welcome. This is only a learning bench, so
no worries with data being lost.
