- roaming profiles with multiple users
- Posted by J. Walker on April 25th, 2006
In our office we use server 2003 & XP on the client PC's with roaming
profiles & folder redirection. Sometimes, our users log in to other PC's.
Now, I have noticed when someone logs in or out, the PC synchronizes every
person's profile who has logged in to that machine in the past. This makes
the log in/out process much longer. I tried to delete the profiles that were
not needed anymore, but that didn't help. How can I stop a PC from
synchronizing other people's profiles?

May not help - but consider disabling local logon cache (set to 0)

I think this might help. Under control panel goto Tools\Folder
Options\Offline Files. Uncheck "Enable Offline Files".
Depending on how you set up your profile, you will probably
need to log on using that profile to change it. Possibly with an
administrative account.

Are you perhaps talking about offline files? That's what it sounds like to
me. I would disable offline files via group policy (why do you need/want
these on your LAN-connected computers anyway) as well as on the properties
of each of your shares.
If I've misunderstood, please explain further what you mean by "the PC
synchronizes every person's profile." With roaming profiles, the only
syncing going on is with the user logging in, or out. Doesn't matter if you
have eight bajillion cached profile folders on the workstation - only the
current user's one will be uploading/downloading.
