I have a scenario for you guys.
I'm in the process of planning/implementing a new domain to replace the
current one.
The current domain, which I'll call 'Domain A' is running Windows 2000
in Native mode.
The new domain, which I'll call 'Domain B' is running Windows 2003
Enterprise in Native mode.
Here's my dilemma:
Currently we do not have roaming profiles enabled, therefore everyone
stores all their data locally. I want to enable roaming profiles, but
due to space constraints in Domain A, I haven't been able to do so.
In planning and preparation of Domain B, I've included a box that is
specifically designed as a roaming profiles server.
What I would like to do is connect the Roaming Profiles box from Domain
B, into Domain A, set up all the users I need to with roaming profiles
to get all their data off their local machine, and then reconnect it to
Domain B, so when they log in, all their data will be there.
Basically, I'm trying to a). secure the data for backup purposes, and
b). make my life easier so I don't have to go to each machine and copy
profiles.
What I need to know is, can this be done? Can I join a 2003 server to a
2000 domain and allow it to in essence gather all the user data, and
then seamlessly join it to the 2003 domain and have all the users
easily access their data?
Any info would be appreciated. Thank you!
