Runas not running
Posted by future2Bunknown on March 18th, 2008

When I run "runas", it shows me " attempting to start xxx.exe as user
"xxxx"" then nothing happens. No event reported.

If I run "runas" from the context menu, the explorer crashes. Event ID
1002 (winlogon) is reported: "the shell stopped unexpectedly and
explorer.exe was restarted".

Secondary Logon service is running.

Any help is appreciated.

This is not as simple a resolution as you probably hope. There could be a
multitude of things occurring.

Thanks Paul.
I've been to that page and nothing seemed applicable. Also I wonder
why when I runas from command line, no event was reported.
I've turned on winlogon log and userenv log to no avail. Any other log
that runas might generate?

Ok l lied when I said "nothing seemed applicable". I went through a
bunch of drivers and applications, uninstalled as much as possible,
and runas started working again. I should have uninstalled them one by
one so I would know which was at fault but I just didn't have much
time.
Thanks again.

Well start re-installing one by one and see when it fails
