- sbs2003 new user setup question
- Posted by Bryce on March 4th, 2004
Hi.
SBS is setup. I've got IIS working and serving files, ftp is working.
Now I'm trying to connect internal users. I can't.
I've added this sbs server to a peer-to-peer network. I want to take each
computer in turn and add them to the server domain. It's my first time
obviously.
I create the user in the Server Management window. Give it password, etc.
After I'm done it says to open up the browser in the target client computer
and type in the http://servername/ConnectComputer
I get the following error from all computers on our peer-to-peer. Although I
can see the new server in the network connection area from all these
computers.
I get the following error on the targeted client computer when I input that
web address:
The list of users and computers could not be found on the Server. Make sure
that the Small Business Server network adapters are donfigured correctly.
Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?
Bryce.

I would try and add the computer names in the SBS server
before running connectcomputer from the client
computers. If I have problems connecting using
connectcomputer, I just clear out the computer in the SBS
server and readd it. Then I can use connectcomputer and
it works. Kinda a pain, but that is what I have found
after installing about 40workstations on 3-4 sbs
servers. Try that and see if it works. I am sure there
is a more "logical" method, but this one is one that
works for me.

The problem you're having is the same I was having - until
I had the client desktops point their DNS Networking
entries to the SBS Server. Since you were peer-to-peer,
they were probably getting IP information from a
Cablemodem/Router, I'm guessing - if you're not using the
SBS for DHCP, then you'll need to go to each box and
specify that it use only the SBS Server for DNS.

O damn! That's what it was. Thanks for the responses. I had to cheat the DNS
stuff. Thanks for the responses.
