Server 2003 and USB camera
Posted by Henry on April 12th, 2005

Hi,

I'm having the same problems as described in the article below, but
there was no answer posted.
http://groups.google.ca/groups?hl=en...7f446fc&rnum=1

My problem is that I have a USB camera plugged into a Server2003 box,
device manager recognizes it, proper driver loaded (same one I used in
XP). I used DirectCap to try to view live feeds from the camera, but
the program just exits. I have WIA started, changed it back between
Local Service and Local System, no difference.

Increasing the logging in WIA, wiadebug.log tells me this:
====================Start 'sti_ci.dll' Debug - Time: 2005/04/11
18:09:25:718====================
ClassInstall: Enter...
ClassInstall: Processing DIF_ADDPROPERTYPAGE_ADVANCED message.
ClassInstall: Leaving... Ret=0xe000020e.
ClassInstall: Enter...
ClassInstall: Processing DIF_INSTALLDEVICEFILES message.
ClassInstall: Leaving... Ret=0xe000020e.
ClassInstall: Enter...
ClassInstall: Processing DIF_INSTALLDEVICEFILES message.
ClassInstall: Leaving... Ret=0xe000020e.

Does anyone have an idea of whats going on?

Thanks
Henry

I found the solution to this problem so I thought I'd share:

I had Service Pack 1 installed and by default, the Data Execution
Prevention setting was set to "Turn on for all programs and services"
rather than "Turn on for all Windows programs and services". The second
setting is what gets set in WinXP SP2. Not sure why it's different in
Server 2003.

The camera driver was deemed malicious, so it prevented it from
executing.

Hope this helps others.
