Shadow Copy
Posted by Ron on November 4th, 2004

I can't find Windows 2003 server group so I am posting it here.

My understanding is that shadow copy only takes a volume "snapshot" at
specified intervals and we can only go back to that point in time to recover
files/folders. Am I right? It does not "keep" previous document versions on
the fly, does it? I mean whenever user presses "Save" button, shadow copy
does not save a copy of the previous version, does it?

Shadow copy only take "snapshots" of a volume (with shadow copies enabled)
at times the administrator schedule. It's not like Novell or other OS, only
take "snapshots". The save or autosave options don't affect shadow copies
(don't save versions !!!!!!!!!!! every time you make save). Remember only 64
copies or the maximum space of disk allocated for shadow copies

Just as I thought. Thanks for clarifying it.
