Strange GPO issue
Posted by goundhog on March 28th, 2007

I have 2 W2003 SP1 servers in a OU with 3 GPO's

All was fine

Then I noticed if I made a change to a GPO it was only affecting one of the
servers

I have done a Gpupdate and reboot - no effect

Any ideas about the next step ? Don't really want to take the server out of
the OU as the GPO's affect lots of setttings the users have in a live
environment

Haven't tried gpupdate /force - not sure what that does....

Any ideas folks ?!

So you wish it to affect OTHER Servers or Workstations?

Chance are you have a replication problem and the computers are
actually authenticating against a DC without these GPO (settings) updates.

At least you haven't proven that isn't the case yet -- do a GPResult /Z on
all XP or 2003 servers to find out if the updates are being applied or not.
Also to see the actual elements of each GPO that apply.

You can also use RSoP from AD Users/Computers to check this stuff
in either logging or planning mode.

Also check replication by doing a complete "DCDiag /c" on every DC
and searching for FAIL or WARN messages in the output.

Not much. Sounds more important than it is.
