Using RIS to deploy XP on clients fails because of SCSI-controllers on the clients
Posted by Rolf Barbakken on October 31st, 2004

Deploying XP-images when there's IDE-type controllers on the clients is no
problem - XP boots, installs and everything is fine.

The problem occurs on IBM workstations (M Pro and Z Pro) that have
SCSI-controllers from Adaptec and LSI. I have tried following descriptions
that suggests adding textmode-drivers in $OEM$\TEXTMODE and copying these
into i386, and editing the txtsetup.oem-file.

The setup never comes past the initial setup. It cannot find the harddrives
as the drivers obviously have not been found/installed. Editing the
txtsetup.oem-file results in early failure during setup as it complains
there's an error in the file that causes error in one of the setup-files.

Do anyone have a suggestion? Maybe even an example setup that have worked?

Regards...

Correct path should be ...$OEM$\$1\Drivers. Check out this article for some
tips:

Sorry, but you are mistaken. We're not talking about PnP-drivers, but mass
storage drivers that are needed in the textmode-phase of the setup.

If the setup cannot find drivers for your adaptec-controller it won't find
any harddrives, which makes the rest of the setup pretty hard to complete.

Rolf

Oops... you are right. Sorry, didn't read your post carefully enough

Have you seen this article before:

I have seen the first link, but it doesn't solve it for me.

The second is a bit more elaborate and worth trying to follow.

What would be great, though, is support for several mass-storage devices. We
have IBM Intellistations where some models have Adaptec SCSI-controllers,
and others have LSI. How can you make one image support them both?
