Virtual PC or Virtual Server?
Posted by StefanHammar on April 12th, 2005

Hi

I'm planning to set up a lab environment on a new laptop ...

The virtual machines I need to set up are Windows xp sp2 and Windows 2003
server sp1.

Can I use Windows XP with Virutal PC or must I install Windows 2003 server sp1
and Vurtual server?

Thanks!
Stefan

Either would work.

Although if you are running this on a laptop, Virtual PC would probably
better fit the bill.
(You can also run Virtual Server on Windows XP Pro so long as it is not
"production" -

Get lots of RAM.

Both will do the job.
I'm using Virtual PC on my Windows XP laptop a lot. Works fine with both
Windows XP, Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003 virtual machines.

You are probaly going to use both Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 guest
machines at the same time. If so I would recommend to have at least 1GB
memory. More is better ... :-)
