- Posted by andrew on February 22nd, 2005
i want to use virtual server 2005 to practice upgrading my exchange 2000
server to exchange 2003. is there any way to get my virtual machine to access
the tape drive so i can restore my exchange database?

Hi,
There is no way to make Virtual Server guests directly access your tape
drive, but if you look at the guest like another computer on the network,
how would you get it to access the tape drive? Is networking an option?
By the way - there's a Virtual Server newsgroup, it is
Microsoft.public.virtualserver - you may want to post there for input

thanks for that Jonathan. networking is an option. in this case i might make
a host machine that is network accessible to the guest systems, then they can
use the backup software over the virtual network.
i'm using the technet managed newsgroups and didn't see that other
newsgroup. i'll configure a newsreader instead of the web interface.
thanks again
